DERMITEK HAS SPONSORED A SELF-DEFENSE PROGRAMME FOR WOMEN BASED ON THE TECHNIQUES OF BRUCE LEE

Bilbao's Clinic (Dermitek) presented on the thirteenth Dueñas-Jabeak, an acknowledgement to those women that have contributed to leadership

Bilbao, 8th of June 2007.-

Dermitek, aesthetic clinic, leader in dermatologic treatments based on the use of laser, has sponsored a new programme of self-defense for women when they face a situation of physical assault, which has been named Dueñas-Jabeak. The presentation of the Project took place on Wednesday, the 13th of June, from 10 to 13, at the Hotel Domine, in Bilbao.

The course was taught by the wing tsun and escrima teacher Soraya Campana and the psychologist Maria Luisa Lopez Ibarrondo. The attendance was even greater than expected.

Dueñas-Jabeak has been specifically designed to introduce women in the prevention of an impeding attack and in learning an effective defense when assaulted. Wing tsun is the best known worldwide fighting Chinese system that was practiced by the well known Bruce Lee; on the other hand, escrima is a Philippine martial art in which you learn how to use your own body or different objects such as a weapon.


With this programme Dermitek continues with its tradition of providing support to the world of women, which has recently included the backing of women artists and the support provided to the Association of Women with Breast Cancer in Bizkaia. Doctors Nerea Landa and Jose Luis Azpiazu, Directors of the Bilbao Clinic add, "This initiative is a way to thank all those women that have helped Dermitek grow, providing a tool that can be very useful on certain occasions, in the same manner in which we help all women in other social aspects of great importance."

This has been a first contact with self-defense techniques that can be used if necessary by women to avoid physical assault. This technique is based on two main pillars, a psychological and a physical one. Soraya Campana, expert on this type of defense based on the movements of real fighting, was a student of the prestigious Victor Gutierrz, currently the European Director of Wing Tsun Training and cofounder of the project.
