What photorejuvenation is used at Dermitek?

Photorejuvenation uses a combination of different Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) lasers for face, neckline and hands skin rejuvenation in a mild and non-aggressive way. These skin areas are most affected by the sun and aging. The skin in these areas is thin, has lost its elasticity and presents dark spots and small blood vessels. These signs on the skin are named "photoaging" or aging caused by the sun light. Lasers are able to revert these effects and thus the results produced are named "photorejuvenation" or rejuvenation caused by the lasers.

Why is intense pulsed light and lasers so efficient?

As a result of Photorejuvenation treatment, new collagen production is stimulated and skin rejuvenates.. The patient's collagen itself is renewed. At the same time the dark spots of the sun or age and tiny capillaries ( "couperosis") fade over. The size of the pore is also reduced. In short, a significant revitalizing effect is achieved the aged skin of the face, chest or hands

How is the treatment carried out?

At Dermitek we have learned that all aged skin problems can not be treated with one only type of laser. For this reason, we have decided to use different types of lasers on one only person and during one session.

A series of light pulses are delivered on the skin from the different equipments used. This light energy is delivered in specific doses and in the adequate areas. The light pulses penetrate on the dermis leaving the superficial epidermis unaffected. Each treatment is adapted to the specific pathology of each patient. At Dermitek we use the following technologies: Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to achieve skin with an homogenous colour and a greater shine, specific Vascular Lasers for blood vessels such as KTP, Neodynium:Yag, and Candela's V-Beam. Likewise, an ultrashort Q-Switched Alexandrite pulsed laser is used specifically for dark spots. Different lasers, one after the other, are used in each session to achieve the best of results by being able to remove during the same session black spots, red blood vessels and providing smoothness, shine and elasticity to the skin.

How many sessions are necessary?

The improvement observed will depend on several factors such as the intensity of photoaging of the area treated and the individual response to the treatment. In general terms, 2 to 5 sessions are needed to achieve satisfactory results. There should be a gap of at least one month between sessions.

What are the advantages over other methods?

It is a smooth, nonaggressive treatment and at the same time it is effective. Skin is not damaged, is no anesthesia, neither wounds, nor points, so there is no postoperative period and there is no need to be off sick. Patients may resume their normal activities immediately following treatment. No one will notice we are following a treatment for our face but they will surely perceive we are improving.

What results can I expect?

Following the first sessions your skin will have a more natural color with a smoother appearance and touch. Signs of sun damage will lighten. The redness and the veins improve gradually. The size of the pores will be reduced. Fine lines will be gradually reduced. Those improvements will increase progressively after each session.

Does it hurt?

No. Most clients describe it as a little uncomfortable burning sensation during light pulses. Topical anesthetic may be used.

What is felt after each treatment?

The discomfort after the treatment is almost nonexistent. After the treatment, the skin may become pink or reddish, but this reaction usually subsides in little time. Occasionally some dark scabs may appear, but they will be by itself.

After the treatment you must follow our instructions, avoid aggressive cleansing and the use of sunscreens.

Who are the best candidates for the treatment?

The best candidates are for the treatment are people who presents skin damaged by the sun in the face, chest or the back of the hands, with dark spots of aging and sun damage, red faces with venitas, and dilated pores

Is hand and chest treatment efficient?

Yes, very effective. The pulsed light is able to make lighter the brown spots that they appear throughout the years in the back of the hands and chest. At the same time the skin becomes smoother and wrinkled skin that formed with age start fading.

Is chest treatment efficient?

Yes. Our experience in Dermitek allows to affirm that to the brown marks, capillaries and the irregular texture of the neck and chest, damaged by the sun improve specially in this area.

Is it efficient for rosacea or "red face"?

We know that the laser offers excellent results in the treatment of the red venitas of the face, that they give to the people with rosacea a permanently red color red or choked in the cheeks.
